About us

The museum’s main tasks include research and dissemination with emphasis on the Iron Age. There are approximately 30 year-round employees at the museum. During the summer months, about 70 seasonal workers also work at the museum. The museum was visited by approximately 103,000 guests in 2022. The administration has offices in the old rectory at Borg, a stone’s throw from the museum. Office hours: 08:00 – 15:30 weekdays.

Lofotr Viking Museum cares about the environment and tries to adapt its operations so that the environmental impact is as low as possible. Among other things, this entails sorting at source, minimising energy consumption and consumption, being conscious of purchasing (eco-labelled goods where possible, etc.), operating barns and stables in ways that provide good animal housing – and much more. The annual “climate and environment report” produced by Lofotr Viking Museum is available upon request. The museum presents the regional and indigenous cultural history in a national and international perspective.

We will be a traffic creator for tourism into Lofoten and help build up a more year-round tourism offer in the area. We create pride and identity locally. The museum creates jobs and contributes to making Lofoten more attractive to locals as well as visitors. We contribute to local community activities that have a particular focus on children and young people.
