PLACES TO EAT

THE MUSEUM CAFÉ

The museum café serves food and drinks inspired by ingredients known during the Viking Age. The café is open to everyone and is located in the arrivals facility. Welcome in for a lovely break from your museum visit. Here you will be served both hot and cold food, refreshments and cakes. Try our tasty sandwiches with locally produced cheese, smoked salmon or Lofoten sausage. Or maybe it’s more tempting with a waffle and homemade cakes made from blueberries or lingonberry?

Seasonal selection:

02.01 – 31.05We offer simple refreshments like homemade cakes, sandwiches and the soup of the day. Ice cream, waffle and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
01.06 – 31.08We serve hot food such as Viking burger, sour cream porridge, fish cakes and vegan nut steak. Fresh homemade cakes and sandwiches. Ice cream, waffle and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
01.09 – 22.12We offer simple refreshments of homemade cakes, sandwiches and the soup of the day. Ice cream, waffle and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
Open all year round, during the museum’s opening hours. Welcome!
SKJELTERSKJÅEN CAFÉ

Skjelterskjåen Café is located down by the activity/harbour area and is well suited for a break between different activities and Viking experiences. The café sells soup and pancakes inspired by ingredients available in the Viking Age. Here you will also find ice cream and various drinks, which can be enjoyed outdoors in pleasant surroundings.

Open period 15.06 – 15.08, every day from 11:00 – 18:30.

THE CHIEFTAIN’S HOUSE

In Chieftain’s House you can experience the Viking Age in a vibrant and tasty way with the Vikings’ warm lunch. The meal is served in the beautiful feast hall. The delicious lamb soup made by the lady of the house is cooked in an iron pot over the fire and served with local bread and sour cream. Here you also have the opportunity to taste honey beer brewed by Lofotpils.

The lamb soup is served every day from 12:00 to 17:00 in period 15.06 – 15.08.

Outside food:

Food and drinks brought along are not allowed on our premises, neither in the café, arrival facilities nor in the Chieftain’s House. However, you are welcome to use our picnic tables which are placed around the outdoors in various places on the museum grounds.

VIKING FEAST

Welcome to a party in the way of the Vikings! The Chief and the Lady of the house welcome you to a meal in the mighty feast hall. Get to know the people of Lofotr and join us on a journey more than 1000 years back in time.

Enjoy a tasty dinner in historic surroundings. Vikings in beautiful costumes, flickering lights from oil lamps, beautiful decorations and the smell of tar and bonfires. The chiefain and the lady of the house welcome you to a meal in the mighty feast hall.

The Viking Feast is an evening event in collaboration with Hurtigruten and Havila. The lady of the house will bring forth her best food; lamb tigh from Lofoten lamb with tasty side dishes and spices of local herbs. It will be a sacrifice to the Norse gods and during the meal there will be good stories, singing and dancing.
